Setting up integrated transport-chain to bring 40.040 steel railcar wheels from Ukraine to Canada
These wheels (150 kgs each), produced in Dnjepropetrovsk (UKR) were to be shipped to Winnipeg. - Because of the many uncertainties in the transport chain, a synchromodale approach was adopted to ensure constant supply to the 'wheelshop' in Winnipeg where the wheels had to be assembled to the railcars . - We adjusted the production-schedule of the manufacturers to make full railcar-loads for shipment to a stuffing station near Odessa where the wheels were loaded into ocean-containers. - The (heavyweight) containers were subsequently transferred to Odessa and shipped either via Haifa (Israel) or Goya Tauro (Italy) to Halifax and Montreal from where the journey continued by train to Winnipeg station where dedicated trucks took the containers to the Winnipeg wheelshop. - Despite unpredictable local circumstances, unreliable rail transport, strikes and even bombshelling at Haifa port, thanks to our synchromodal approach the entire logistic operation waste flawlessly executed. |
